July 7 – Saudi Arabia
The second event in the Summer Travel Series will give you an overview of new research on the ecosystems of the Arabian Peninsula. You will explore the earliest known Arabian archaeological sites and learn about the prehistory of the Arabian Peninsula with Leakey Foundation grantee Dr. Michael Petraglia.
About Michael Petraglia
Leakey Foundation grantee Dr. Michael Petraglia is Professor of Human Evolution and Prehistory at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History in Jena, Germany and Principal Investigator of the Palaeodeserts Project. Dr. Petraglia’s archaeological research is interdisciplinary and has centered on subjects concerning human evolution, including the evolution of cognition, the evolution of behavior, and the relations between climate change and hominin dispersals.
He has conducted archaeological field projects in Africa and Asia, primarily in the Arabian Peninsula and the Indian subcontinent. Dr. Petraglia has authored and co-edited nine books and over 150 journal articles and book chapters.
