The Leakey Foundation is pleased to announce we were given an 80% Efficiency Rating during our most recent audit.

This means the 80% of our annual budget is granted to scientists and used for our educational programs.

In the American Institute of Philanthropy’s view, 60% or greater is reasonable for most charities and the most highly efficient charities are able to spend 75% or more on programs.

From the AIP website: "AIP is a nationally prominent charity watchdog service whose purpose is to help donors make informed giving decisions."

We spend the remaining percentage on fundraising efforts and general administration.*

* AIP has not officially rated The Leakey Foundation.

Education

For four decades, the Foundation has worked to involve the public in the process of scientific investigation and continues to invite school children and curious adults to participate in and make their own contributions to our evolving understanding of human origins.

The Annual Speaker Series on Human Origins

Speaker Series Sarah Hrdy

The Annual Speaker Series on Human Origins is the keystone program of The Leakey Foundation’s outreach efforts to fulfill its mission to further education and public understanding of human origins.

Leakey Learning Expeditions

Leakey Learning Expeditions Sarah Hrdy

Besides offering engaging presentations of scientific topics, speakers visit area schools as part of the corollary Leakey Learning Expeditions program. This program gives students the opportunity for face to face interaction with leading scientists who work under the umbrella of human origins research, at no cost to the school. Leakey Learning Expeditions is developing as very successful program with scientists visiting, and hopefully inspiring, nearly a thousand students across the country every year.
