SUMMARY:Summer Travel Series: Primate Research Tour
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to the final tour of our virtual “Summer Travel Series.” Join us to explore three fascinating primate research sites with Leakey Foundation scientists as your guides. \nSupport a good cause while you learn from top experts\, tour places the public will never get to visit\, and “Zoom” to the far corners of the world from the comfort of your own home. \nAll proceeds from this event series will go towards the Primate Research Fund. \nRegistration is limited. Use the registration form below to reserve your spot. \n  \n\n\n  \nAugust 26 – Democratic Republic of Congo\, Indonesia\, and Senegal \n\nIn this very special program\, three researchers will provide “tours” of their long-term field sites\, all of which have received support from the Primate Research Fund. \nThe Primate Research Fund is a program that offers a lifeline for long-term primate studies. It provides emergency bridge funds to maintain research sites that have operated for 10 years or longer. \n*We had previously planned to have four speakers\, but one of our expert guides will be unable to attend \n  \n\nYour Expert Guides \nDr. Takeshi Furuichi\nDirector of the Wamba Committee for Bonobo Research\, Democratic Republic of Congo \nOur tour will take us to the village that Takayoshi Kano found in 1973 after traveling by bicycle in search of a suitable site to start the first-ever ecological and behavioral study of bonobos. \nDr. Jill Pruetz\nFounder and Principal Investigator of the Fongoli Savanna Chimpanzee Project\, Senegal \nUntil recently\, Fongoli was the only site where apes had been habituated in a savanna mosaic. On this tour\, you’ll learn how scientists have collected data for 15 years during daily “follows” of chimpanzees from dawn to dusk\, with an emphasis on how the dry savanna environment influences these apes’ behavior. \nDr. Caroline Schuppli\nDirector of the SUAQ Orangutan Research Project\, Suaq Balimbing\, Indonesia \nThe Suaq Balimbing research station was established in 1994\, and it has the highest density of Sumatran orangutans ever recorded. We will visit the Suaq orangutans to understand their uniquely high level of social tolerance and unmatched level of behavioral complexity\, including the habitual use of tools. \n\n\n\n\n  \n\n  \nDonate to register \n\n\n\nThe Summer Travel Series is a fundraiser for the Primate Research Fund\, a fund that provides emergency grants to long-term primate field research sites. \nThis funding supports local communities while ensuring continuity of data collection. \nAll donations will be quadruple-matched by Anne and Jeff Maggioncalda and the Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation. \nTicket Types \n$100 Donation\nfor August 26 \n• One curated box of regional treats mailed to your home *\n• Zoom access to the live event\n• Video replay link for the recorded program\n• Opportunity to engage with world-class scholars\n• Your tax-deductible donation is quadrupled\n• 100% of your donation goes to the Primate Research Fund \n*Treat boxes are only available for U.S. addresses. Delivery is by USPS and delivery before the event date is not guaranteed. \n$30 Donation \n• Online links for all three program videos (one week after each live event).\n• Your tax deductible donation is quadrupled\n• 100% of your donation goes to the Primate Research Fund\n \nRegistration Form \n\n\n\n\nSummer Virtual Travel Series Registration\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n First Name\n *\n \n \n \n \n\n\n Last Name\n *\n \n \n \n \n\n\n Email\n *\n \n \n \n \n\n\n Phone\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n I wish to register for the following programs:\n *\n \n \n June 25 - Argentina\n \n July 7 - Saudi Arabia\n \n August 26 - Democratic Republic of the Congo\, Ethiopia\, Indonesia\, and Senegal\n \n All three programs\n\n \n \n\n\n I cannot attend but wish to receive a recording or make a donation:\n \n \n \n Yes\, send me the recordings\n \n Yes\, I will make a donation.\n\n Check all that apply.\n \n\n\n Curated Gift Boxes\n \n \n \n Yes\, send me the gift boxes\n \n No\, I do not want to receive the gift boxes\n\n \n \n\n\n reCAPTCHA\n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n \n \n If you are human\, leave this field blank. \n \n \n \n\nSubmit\n\n\n\n\n\nΔ\n \n\n\n
