The Leakey Foundation is pleased to announce we were given an 80% Efficiency Rating during our most recent audit.

This means the 80% of our annual budget is granted to scientists and used for our educational programs.

In the American Institute of Philanthropy’s view, 60% or greater is reasonable for most charities and the most highly efficient charities are able to spend 75% or more on programs.

From the AIP website: "AIP is a nationally prominent charity watchdog service whose purpose is to help donors make informed giving decisions."

We spend the remaining percentage on fundraising efforts and general administration.*

* AIP has not officially rated The Leakey Foundation.

Are you a past or present Leakey Foundation Grantee?

As a Leakey Foundation Grantee, you are part of an elite group of pioneers leading the way toward a much greater understanding of who we are and from whence we came. In recognition of your outstanding achievements and contributions to science, we encourage you to become a Member of The Leakey Foundation Alumni Society.

The Alumni Society will form a special cohort of Foundation members, comprising people who themselves have benefited from the activities of the Foundation. As a member of the Alumni Society, you will have a continuing connection to the Foundation and a new avenue to provide much-needed support to human origins research.

Receiving funding from the Leakey Foundation is a great honor. The Foundation is excited to formalize how proud we are of our Grantees through The Leakey Foundation Alumni Society.

Only scientists who have received funding from The Leakey Foundation are eligible to join the Alumni Society.

“The Leakey Foundation has generously supported my fieldwork on gibbons, orangutans, and chimpanzees throughout my career, as a graduate student, postdoctoral researcher, and faculty member.

Supporting the Foundation now through their Alumni Society is a small way to reciprocate- and for me a no-brainer.”
